A new Indian restaurant is coming to Beacon Street in Washington Square.
Grand India is planning to open its restaurant in the next few weeks at 1671 Beacon Street, the former site of Is’Original Thai Cuisine.
Grand India has another location in Salem, NH, serving “authentic recipes reimagined,” according to its website. It has been open since 2022.
Owner Ganesh Ramaswamy said that the Brookline location is planning a soft opening on Feb. 11, and a grand opening about a week later.
“Our menu is pretty huge, and we try to cover most of the regions from India. We specialize in South Indian dishes,” he said. “We look forward to serving the community.”
The original restaurant is popular in Salem, boasting 5 stars on the review site Yelp. It also offers catering and delivery.
The Brookline location seats 25 customers, according to minutes from a Select Board meeting. The board voted to approve alcohol and common victualler licenses to Grand India on Dec. 19.
The restaurant is planning to be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., according to licensing documents.
