As the story pointed out, it’s not actually the IP address that matters — that can change at any point. It’s actually the MAC address of your iPhone that is universally unique (it’s a UUID). That MAC address, once collected, can be compared against other databases that can resolve the MAC address to your real name. That’s a huge privacy issue.
