I write to you with regards to the article about the Brookline home invasion story and the pictures of the suspects. I was disappointed to see that your lead story would start with 2 photos (“mugshots”) of people of color. I’m not sure that the pictures were needed or added to the story, but they might perpetuate the narrative of Black and Brown people and crime. In the future, I would hope more consideration would be given by Brookline.News as to whether photos of the suspects are needed (see: Report Documents Racial Bias in Coverage of Crime by Media/) and to our police department as to whether they should publicly release these photos.
