I think members of the Select Board and others who criticize the deal the town administrator and building commissioner cut with The Country Club for lease of the Anderson estate houses are being short-sighted. To get TCC to lease, restore and maintain those drafty properties (that most of us would not care to live in while they are being rehabbed) relieves Brookline middle-class taxpayers of the burden of shouldering that expense. Funds not spent by the town on those properties are funds available for other essential purposes, including town employee wages. Further, we should not conflate TCC workers with TCC members; the resources of the two groups are almost certainly vastly different. So, we are still providing housing to those in need of housing.
